The Korean National Tourist Organization recently announced that they will hold a K-Pop concert to promote the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.
After losing bids for the 2010 and 2014 Winter Olympics, South Korea finally got the event after they won the bid last 2011. In aid to celebrate the selection and prepare the citizens for the games in 2018, the Korean National Tourist Organization decided to hold a concert in Pyeongchang.
Announcing the event, the organizers were quoted saying, “The fact that a Hallyu concert will be held in a local, rather than a metropolitan area, makes it meaningful. With the many overseas fans that will attend, we are expecting it to have a positive effect on the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics.”
On their first announcement, the organizers released the line up which will included performances from Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, Infinite, Boohwal, Kim Gunmo and Baek Chunggang – the winner from MBC TV’s “Birth of a Great Star”.
It is said that out of the 12,000 seats, at least 10,000 will be allocated to the Korean fans with the remaining 2,000 given to overseas fans who are planning to attend the event.
The K-Pop concert will be held at the Alpensia Ski Jumping Special stage and is confirmed to be a free concert. Ticket distributions and other information are said to be released at a later date.
What do you think of the line-up?
